Speech

Some people may say that the benefits of genetically modified crops outweigh the dangers but I disagree with them for the following four reasons.
The first reason is that it can pose great risks to human health. For example, some people could develop life threatening allergies to genetically modified foods. Since there is so little information and research about the safety, genetically modified crops could be extremely dangerous.
The second reason is that genetically modified foods cannot overcome disease and pest problems. Foods genetically modified to enhance resistance to disease and pests can produce stronger disease and pests.
The third reason is that it is very harmful for the environment. Current genetically modified foods technology relys very heavily on the use of agrochemicals and a lot of pesticides and herbicides cause a plethora of environmental problems.
The final reason is that it is not a solution to world hunger. Actually, there are more than enough foods in the world. World hunger is caused not by production but by food distribution and politics. Therefore genetically modified foods are not a solution to world hunger although some people say they are.
As I mentioned, I don’t think the benefits of genetically modified crops outweigh the dangers for the aforesaid four reasons.
