Does the media sensationalize crime?

(上記TOPIC、英語で意見を論理的に述べる技術とトレーニング第7章より引用)

Essay

I think the media sensationalize crime but it is not necessarily wrong. Sometimes, the media should sensationalize crime, and sometimes not.
Firstly, since the media report the same crime over and over again through many means of media like TV, the Internet, newspapers, etc, it is definitely can be said that the media do sensationalize crime. But it is not always bad.
When it comes to felonies such as murder, the media should broadcast crime and make public all of the criminal's information, no matter how old they are, as much as possible in order to prevent the same kinds of crime. But the media should not disseminate the real names and photos of victims to the public because it will cause a lot of inconvenience to the families and relatives of the victims.
On the other hand, if there is no victim in crime such as case of drug use and tax evasion, the media should not sensationalize these kinds of crimes because since there is no victim, we should give a chance to rehabilitate the criminals. But if the media sensationalize the crimes too much, it will be more difficult to rehabilitate the criminals.
As I mentioned, I think the media sensationalize crime but it is not necessarily wrong.
