Essay

I think there are two reasons why an increasing number of young people are struggling with depression.
The first reason is that university entrance examinations put a lot of pressure on them. Japan is a very educational background oriented country so that you are very unlikely to get a job at a major company unless you graduated from a prestigious college. Therefore many young people study hard for university entrance examinations and there are many young people who failed and have been struggling with them for a few years. Studying for the examinations for a few years is very stressful and makes them depressed.
The second reason is that young people are very pessimistic about their future because the economy has deteriorated. The economic recession affects many young people and causes them many problems such as financial problems, unemployment. Moreover Japanese lifetime employment and seniority system have broken down and materialistic politicians govern our lives so that young people have no incentive to work for a company. Under the circumstances, many of them are suffering from depression due to problems caused by the economic deterioration.
As I mentioned, there are the aforesaid two reasons why an increasing number of young people are struggling with depression.

やはり、景気悪いことや年金の負担などが一番の原因のような気がします。
