Should medical care be free in Japan?

Essay

◆ Pros
I strongly believe that medical care should be free in Japan for the two following reasons.
The first reason is that ones who do not have enough money or do not pay much tax have the right to receive the same medical care as the rich do. Japan’s constitution ensures that every person has the right to live a healthy life. Hence, it is totally unconstitutional that some people cannot receive medical care because of lack of money. Now is the time for people to start helping and loving each other unconditionally, irrespective of how much money one earns.
The second reason is that considering the domestic situation it is only natural for the Japanese government to make medical care free. In Japan, more than 30,000 people commit suicide every year and they could have been saved if both mental and physical medical care had been available for free and the number of elderly people has been increasing rapidly and they need medical care. Considering these things, unless medical care becomes free, the population will decrease exponentially and Japan will someday face the crisis of existence.
As I mentioned, for the aforementioned two reasons, I strongly believe that medical care should be free in Japan.

◆ Cons
I do not believe that medical care should be free in Japan for the three following reasons.
The first reason is that medical expenses are one of the most expensive things so that the government simply cannot afford to make it free. What with the world economic recession and the 3.11 earthquake and its aftermath, the government has been facing the worst crisis in the history so that at least for now it is impossible to make medical care free.
The second reason is that in this capitalized world if people do not pay, then they do not get good services. This is just the way it is. People who pay much money have higher quality services than those who do not pay much.
The third reason is that if medical care becomes free there will be too many patients and consequently there will be a serious lack of doctors and nurses that are already in short supply and then the government will need more money to educate more doctors and nurses and will not be able to pay for the cost.
As I mentioned, for the aforementioned three reasons, I do not believe that medical care should be free in Japan.
