Should school days be longer?

Essay

◆ Pros
I strongly believe that school days should be longer for the three following reasons.
The first reason is that it will increase the standard of education. These days the standard of academic ability has been declining and one of the biggest reasons is that today’s children spend less time in school.
The second reason is that it will help children to stay away from juvenile delinquency. As the old saying goes, idle hands are the devil’s workshop, people, especially children who still don’t realize what is important for their life, tend to resort to delinquency when they have nothing to do.
The third reason is that school needs more time in order to teach practical things in life. There are many other things which school should teach such as how to maintain physical and mental health, how to build good human relationship, how to make enough money by doing what one loves, how to improve the environment and self sufficiency rate, and so on. One of the biggest reasons why there are so many problems in this world is that people are not taught about these extremely important things.
As I mentioned, for the aforementioned three reasons, I believe that school days should be longer.

◆ Cons
I do not believe that school days should be longer for the three following reasons.
The first reason is that school deprives people of time for development in their non-scholastic abilities. School is just a waste of time for many people except those who want to be a scholar or an employee in a major company. School kills talent by failing to support people who do not need academic ability or educational background in their life.
The second reason is that school can be a cause of inferiority complex and prejudice. School brainwashes people to believe that people with higher educational background are better and people who are not good at academic studies or fail to adapt to school life are failure. However, these are not true.
The third reason is that how much time children spend in school is irrelevant to their academic ability. Some survey shows that homeschooled children have higher scholastic ability than those who normally go to school. The children's academic standards are declining not because school days are shorter but because today’s children study less at home. As a proof of it, many geniuses such as Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, didn't go to school.
For the aforementioned three reasons, I do not believe that school days should be longer.
