Does modern pop culture degrade art?

Essay

◆ Pros
I strongly believe that modern pop culture degrades art because it is extremely difficult to pursue pure art in this modern world where people need money to buy something.
I believe that the creation of works of art is what artists do and the creation of products to sell is not what artists do but what merchants do. However, as I said, in this modern world where almost everything costs money, it is extremely difficult to pursue pure art so that even artists should think about making money. However, creating works with intention of making a profit is not 100% true art. On top of that, there are even some artists who easily lower the quality of their works to make more money. Furthermore, modern pop culture is too commercialized. Media advertizes artistic works based not on quality as art but on how much money they would make. Taking these things into consideration, I must say that modern pop culture degrades art. Therefore in order to protect the quality of art it is important to establish some system to allow artists to be able to pursue pure art.
As I mentioned, for the aforementioned reasons, I strongly believe that modern pop culture degrades art.

◆ Cons
Although some people believe that modern pop culture degrades art, I do not think so because art is free.
It is wrong to judge something new and different from what conservative people think is correct and normal as degradation. It is not that modern pop culture degrades art. It is just that conservative people’s narrow-mindedness not to be able to accept something new and different because art is free and there is no such thing as degradation of art. Nothing but people’s belief can degrade art. It is just that some people blindly believe so. Moreover, although some people say that today’s art is too commercialized, commercialized art is also true art because, as I said again and again, art is free. Art is not only something pedantic and esoteric. Modern works of art which are popular with many people are also true art. Making something commercialized does not have direct logical connection to the degradation of the quality. If anything, it can be said that things that many people like are higher in quality than works whose value only few people can recognize.
As I mentioned, for the aforementioned reasons, I do not believe that modern pop culture degrades art.

the use of painting, drawing, sculpture etc to represent things or express ideas
Longman English Dictionary Online
